Who better to show us the specific steps to getting a great drum sound than Carl Albrecht !?! Carl has played on hundreds of recording projects, many of which you have likely heard, starting with the Integrity Hosanna projects in the 1980's, along with Maranatha projects, and to today where he is a sought after session player in Nashville, and tours as the drummer with the Paul Baloche Band. And he is going to show YOU how to tune a set of drums so they sound the best that they possibly can.Read More About Carl on His Website
Bring your guitarists with you (kicking and screaming if need be) and let seasoned pro guitarist Quinten Hope reveal the secrets to getting a great sound, and how to help the sound techs capture that sound over the main loudspeaker system. Quinten regularly plays on the worship team in churches in the DFW area. In fact, we first met "Q" when he was playing on the rhythm section at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas.Read more about Quinten on his website
Kevin McKelvy is the worship pastor at Fellowship Bible Church in Conway, Arkansas. It's a great church, though certainly not a mega church, and Kevin certainly doesn't have a mega budget. Yet he can make his worship services sound like it through the use of great keyboard sounds and carefully chosen stems. Kevin really knows how to make the sound come alive, even for the smaller church. You will go home flooded with ideas for improving the mix in your church. (Which is why you need to bring your keyboard player with you to this class!!!)
The foundation of your mix for a contemporary worship music style rests in the drums and bass guitar. If those sounds don't work, your mix won't work. Yet so many churches have a bass guitar sound that is mushy and indistinct. So we have invited seasoned bass guitarist David Deshazo to show us exactly how to get a great bass guitar sound. You will be absolutely delighted by his gifts as a musician and his ability to share and teach others.
Doug Leake is an audio engineer for the DayStar television network. In 2014 we invited Doug to teach our HTGTS students how to refine their use of compression. Working on "raw" tracks that our musicians had recorded, he applied very subtle compression to most of the channels, and to my surprise completely transformed the mix. Last year Doug returned and invested three hours again transforming the mix with subtle compression and with channel EQ. I can't wait to hear what he will show us this year!
